European Evangelical Alliance Honors Ukrainian Churches with 2026 Hope Award

The European Evangelical Alliance presented its 2026 Hope Award to the evangelical Protestant churches of Ukraine during the Hope for Europe gathering in Golem, Albania. The award, which carries no monetary prize, recognizes individuals or groups that demonstrate biblical hope, integrity, and partnership. Alliance leaders selected the Ukrainian churches for their ongoing commitment to providing shelter and humanitarian aid throughout the ongoing war, noting that these congregations have remained active despite constant threats.

Approximately 250 evangelical leaders from across Europe attended the five-day conference, which focused on the theme “Hope in Uncertain Times.” Igor Bandura, general secretary of the Ukraine Council of Protestant Evangelical Churches, accepted the honor on behalf of the delegation. During the ceremony, Bandura expressed gratitude for the prayers and support of the international community and urged attendees not to become desensitized to the conflict. Co-general secretary Connie Main Duarte stated that the alliance hopes the recognition of the Ukrainian churches' resilience will inspire similar efforts and encourage solidarity among believers across the continent.
