Two Christians kidnapped in northern Cameroon amid ongoing militant violence

Two Christians were abducted on August 10 during an attack on the village of Mahoula in Cameroon’s Mayo-Sava Division. Reports from Open Doors attribute the incident to Boko Haram militants, who have frequently targeted the region near the Nigerian border with raids, looting, and property destruction. The identities of the victims and the status of any ransom demands remain undisclosed.

Local church leaders report that the persistent insecurity is severely impacting the Christian community. Pastor Babien of Amchidé stated that believers in the area face constant threats, including sexual assaults and the destruction of church property. He noted that the ongoing violence is testing the morale and faith of the local population, leading many to struggle with the emotional and spiritual toll of the conflict.

This abduction follows a broader pattern of violence against religious figures in Cameroon. In June, nine individuals, including Catholic priests and nuns, were kidnapped in the country's Northwest Region. These incidents highlight the precarious environment for Christians in northern and western Cameroon, where families face displacement and the constant risk of militant strikes.
