Bristol church to host exhibition featuring replica of Turin Shroud

St Gregory the Great Church in Horfield, Bristol, is scheduled to host an exhibition featuring a replica of the Turin Shroud from September 2 to 12. The display, which previously appeared at Blackburn Cathedral, will include the full-length replica alongside educational talks organized by the British Society for the Turin Shroud (BSTS).

The BSTS, a non-denominational group, maintains a neutral stance regarding the authenticity of the original relic. The exhibition aims to provide a forum for those interested in the history and mystery surrounding the cloth, which is traditionally believed to have wrapped the body of Jesus. Admission to the event is free, with organizers inviting the local community and visitors from further afield to attend.

The authenticity of the original Shroud remains a subject of ongoing debate. While carbon dating has suggested a medieval origin, proponents of its authenticity cite anatomical details, pollen samples from the Middle East, and blood evidence as points of interest. Conversely, some researchers have characterized the artifact as a significant work of Christian art rather than a genuine relic.
