American Missionary Pilot Released After Nine Months in Captivity

Kevin Rideout, an American missionary pilot with the organization Serving In Mission (SIM), has been released after being held captive for nine months. Rideout, who had served in Niger for 19 years, was abducted by three armed men outside his home in the capital city of Niamey on October 21, 2025. Following his release, U.S. officials confirmed that he is in good health and currently in FBI custody while en route to the United States to reunite with his wife, Krista, and their four children.

Throughout his captivity, Rideout’s colleagues and supporters maintained a global prayer effort. Ishaku Izang, a fellow missionary, expressed gratitude to God for the safe return, noting that believers had gathered weekly to pray for his protection. SIM International has requested privacy for the family as they reconnect, while encouraging Christians worldwide to join them in giving thanks for his release.

While President Donald Trump and SIM confirmed the rescue, specific details regarding the circumstances of his release remain varied. Some reports suggest the involvement of eastern Libyan military forces in brokering the deal or conducting a rescue operation, though official terms have not been disclosed. Rideout’s abduction occurred amid significant political instability in Niger following a 2023 coup, highlighting the ongoing security challenges faced by humanitarian workers in the region.
