Church Leaders Encourage Cross-Cultural Mission Within the United Kingdom
During a panel discussion at the 2026 Church Resources Exhibition, mission experts urged UK congregations to view their local communities as primary mission fields. Speakers emphasized that many British residents have little to no exposure to Christian traditions, necessitating a proactive approach to evangelism and community engagement.
Mike Frith, director of the Christian resource site OSCAR, highlighted the importance of building relationships with refugees, asylum seekers, and neighbors from diverse cultural and religious backgrounds. Frith and veteran missionary Michelle Simpson suggested that effective outreach involves practical assistance, such as offering English language classes or help with daily tasks, alongside genuine friendship and integration into church life.
Panelists acknowledged that cross-cultural engagement can be challenging but encouraged churches to partner with established organizations like OM, OMF, and Neighbours Worldwide. By leveraging expertise from those experienced in overseas mission work, local churches can better serve the changing demographics of their neighborhoods and share their faith with those unfamiliar with the gospel.
