Chef John Lowery Reflects on Culinary Career and Faith Journey

John Lowery, a veteran chef with over 40 years of experience, recently shared his journey from a challenging upbringing in Orlando to establishing his own catering business, Conger Inn Victory Catering. Raised by a mother who worked as a maid, Lowery credits her with passing down a divine gift for culinary arts. Lowery’s career was marked by both success and significant personal hardship. He recounts facing racial discrimination early in his career, which, coupled with the grief of losing his mother at age 26, led him to struggle with anger and substance abuse. During this period, he says he turned away from God and his relationships. However, Lowery explains that his passion for cooking remained a constant, eventually leading him to work at high-profile venues like Disney World. Today, he views his culinary work as a continuation of the legacy his mother left him, describing his ability to create and serve food as a natural, God-given talent.
