Televangelist Brian Carn Begins Nine-Month Prison Sentence for Tax Evasion

Brian Carn Jr., a 37-year-old televangelist and leader of Kingdom City Church, has begun a nine-month prison sentence at the Federal Correctional Institution in Bennettsville, South Carolina. Carn, who pleaded guilty in January to obstructing IRS efforts to collect over $600,000 in unpaid taxes, reported to the facility on August 14 following a court-granted extension to care for his father.

Federal prosecutors stated that Carn earned more than $1.4 million in 2015 but later filed an amended return that falsely removed $1.3 million in income to avoid tax obligations. The Department of Justice alleged that Carn fabricated documents and made false representations to conceal assets, resulting in a loss to the U.S. Treasury estimated between $550,000 and $1.5 million. Additionally, prosecutors noted that Carn provided false information to the court regarding his parental status.

Despite his guilty plea, Carn publicly declared during a July 3 worship service that he would never spend a day in jail. His imprisonment follows the recent eviction of his church’s Charlotte, North Carolina, campus due to nearly $76,000 in unpaid rent.
