Serbia Raises Terror Alert Following Attack at Israeli Embassy

Serbia has elevated its national terrorism threat level to the highest designation, known as "red," following an attack on a police officer stationed outside the Israeli embassy in Belgrade. The incident occurred early Wednesday morning when an assailant, identified by officials as a minor from the town of Šabac, approached a police guard booth. According to Serbian authorities, the attacker wounded the officer in the face with a knife before being shot and killed by the officer in self-defense.

Caretaker Interior Minister Ivica Dačić stated that the suspect was a suspected Islamic State supporter who had previously displayed extremist symbols on social media. While investigators are working to determine if the attacker acted independently or under direction, the government has ordered increased security measures across the country, including heightened police patrols at critical infrastructure and public areas. Israeli officials confirmed the incident as an attempted terrorist attack and reported that no diplomatic personnel were harmed. The wounded officer is currently in good condition.
