U.S. Senators Introduce Resolution Marking 105th Anniversary of Chinese Communist Party

U.S. Senators James Lankford and Angus King have introduced a bipartisan resolution to commemorate the 105th anniversary of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) by highlighting its history of human rights abuses. The resolution documents significant historical events, including the Great Chinese Famine and the Tiananmen Square massacre, while drawing attention to ongoing repression against religious minorities and political dissidents.

The resolution specifically addresses the CCP’s efforts to exert state control over religious life. According to the senators, the Chinese government invests significant resources into suppressing independent religious activity, forcing state-sanctioned churches to prioritize communist ideology and “Xi Thought” over traditional religious doctrine. The document further cites the state’s involvement in appointing religious leaders and the detention of at least one million Uyghur Muslims in Xinjiang.

Senator Lankford stated that the resolution serves to acknowledge the party's long history of denying basic freedoms and persecuting people of faith. Senator King emphasized that the initiative reflects American values of democracy and freedom, calling for these principles to remain central to the diplomatic relationship between the United States and China.
