New Resources Aim to Strengthen Family Catechesis and Biblical Literacy

Two recent devotional resources, 'God’s Story, Our Story' by Charlotte and Andrew Ollerton and 'Faith Foundations' by Brian Dembowczyk, offer distinct approaches to teaching children the Christian faith. The Ollertons’ book provides a nine-week journey through the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, designed to help families understand the overarching narrative of Scripture. By contextualizing individual stories, such as the life of Daniel, the authors aim to show how God remains the central figure of the biblical account while connecting these ancient narratives to the daily lives of modern readers.

In contrast, Brian Dembowczyk’s 'Faith Foundations' focuses on systematic theology through a question-and-answer format based on 'The Family Catechism.' This resource covers 99 topics, including the nature of God, the Holy Spirit, sin, and the church. The author intends for these devotions to help parents build a strong spiritual foundation for their children, encouraging the memorization of core theological truths. Both works utilize different pedagogical methods—narrative-based exploration and structured catechesis—to assist families in fostering a deeper understanding of the Christian faith.
