PAC uses AI-generated ad to target Texas Senate candidate James Talarico

The American Principles Project (APP) PAC, which supports Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, has launched a $10 million advertising campaign featuring an AI-generated commercial. The 30-second spot reimagines the iconic 1964 “Daisy” political ad, depicting a young girl in a hospital setting to criticize Democratic state Representative James Talarico’s stance on gender-affirming care for minors.

The ad features a narrator claiming that the “trans industry” targets children with puberty blockers and surgeries, while an AI-generated image of Talarico appears as a doctor. The campaign urges voters to support Paxton in the upcoming November 3 election.

APP President Terry Schilling stated that the ad aims to highlight Talarico’s legislative record regarding sex-change procedures for minors. Talarico, who is running for the U.S. Senate, has faced criticism from the PAC for his voting history and his public expressions of faith. The use of the “Daisy” imagery follows a historical trend of political campaigns repurposing the 1964 commercial to frame the stakes of an election.
