Plateau State Governor Imposes Curfew Following Wave of Deadly Attacks

The governor of Plateau State, Nigeria, has implemented a curfew following a series of violent attacks that resulted in the deaths of at least 27 people between September 13 and September 20. The violence affected multiple local government areas, including Barkin Ladi, Bokkos, Mangu, Riyom, and Jos South. Among the victims was Pastor Samuel Nandi, who was killed on September 20 while traveling to a church service in Maraban Kantoma. His son was also wounded in the incident.

Local reports indicate that the attacks occurred across various communities, including a shooting at Dungus Junction in Kuru District that claimed nine lives. Eyewitnesses and community monitors, such as David Nanpet of the International Committee on Nigeria, have reported ongoing gunfire and suspicious activity, including the sighting of a drone over the Darwat community. Residents expressed concern that these activities may be linked to armed groups planning further violence. In response to the escalating insecurity, local leaders have appealed for international support for the affected communities as security forces attempt to manage the volatile situation.
