Pro-life advocates seek to establish formal UN core group
Diplomats, politicians, and representatives from various pro-family organizations gathered in New York from September 17 to 18 for the Global Forum for Life, Family and Freedoms. The event aimed to organize a diplomatic coalition to counter the influence of the United Nations’ LGBTI Core Group. Organizers announced plans to form a Pro-Life Core Group, which would serve as a formal instrument for governments to coordinate and promote pro-life and pro-family policies on an international scale.
Participants discussed utilizing the Geneva Consensus Declaration (GCD) as a foundational framework for this new initiative. The declaration asserts that there is no international right to abortion, defines the family as the fundamental unit of society, and upholds the sovereignty of nations in setting their own health policies. Currently, over 40 countries align with the GCD. Attendees, including US Under-Secretary of State Christopher Landau, discussed transitioning these principles into active international collaboration. Organizers are now working to establish a convening committee and seek official recognition for the group from the United Nations.
