Peterborough Cathedral Hosts Exhibition on Mary, Queen of Scots

Peterborough Cathedral has launched a new exhibition detailing the life, execution, and burial of Mary, Queen of Scots. The display, which remains open until November 15, explores Mary’s historical significance, including her time under house arrest in England and her eventual execution in 1587. The cathedral served as her initial burial site for 25 years before her remains were moved to Westminster Abbey by her son, King James I.

The exhibition features a variety of programming, including educational talks, a radio play, and candlelit tours. Cathedral Chief Operating Officer Jack Pishhorn expressed pride in hosting the event, noting that the cathedral expects tens of thousands of visitors during the two-month period. Beyond the historical focus, organizers hope the exhibition will provide a boost to the local tourism economy in Peterborough, with potential plans to develop permanent educational installations in the future.
