Open Doors Appeals for Prayer Following Armed Attacks in Syrian Town
The Christian advocacy group Open Doors has issued an urgent call for prayer following a series of armed attacks in the predominantly Christian town of Al-Suqaylabiyah, Syria. The organization reports that gunmen recently targeted homes, businesses, and church properties, leaving residents in a state of fear and trauma. Among the incidents, an Orthodox priest narrowly escaped injury when his vehicle was fired upon, according to reports from Aid to the Church in Need.
The violence reportedly began on October 3 following a dispute between individuals from Al-Suqaylabiyah and the neighboring Muslim-majority town of Al-Qalaa. While the initial conflict appeared to be resolved, unidentified armed men later entered the town and opened fire. Some local residents have expressed suspicion that the earlier disagreement may have served as a pretext for a premeditated assault. This event follows a pattern of instability in the region, including previous outbreaks of violence in March and September of this year. Open Doors is encouraging the global Christian community to pray for the safety of Syrian believers and for the transformation of those responsible for the attacks.
