Katy Faust Calls for Legal Challenge to Obergefell v. Hodges
During the Family Research Council’s annual Pray Vote Stand Summit held at Cornerstone Chapel in Leesburg, Virginia, activist Katy Faust urged for a legal challenge to the 2015 Supreme Court ruling Obergefell v. Hodges. Faust, the founder of the children's rights organization Them Before Us, argued that the precedent establishing a constitutional right to same-sex marriage is not settled law and should be overturned.
In her address, Faust contended that same-sex marriage has fundamentally altered societal understandings of parenthood. She expressed concern that the legal recognition of such unions has led to the removal of gendered terms like "mother" and "father" from various state statutes. Faust argued that the government’s interest in marriage is rooted in the biological necessity of protecting children, asserting that current legal frameworks attempt to bypass biological realities regarding reproduction and child-rearing. She concluded by characterizing traditional marriage as the ideal structure for family life.
