Christian family flees after mob burns home and shop in Pakistan
A mob in the village of Gharial Kalan, Pakistan, set fire to the home and pharmacy of a Christian man named Kamran Masih on October 9, 2026. The incident followed Masih’s arrest the previous evening after local residents accused him of sharing blasphemous content in a WhatsApp group. Fearing further violence, more than 35 Christian families fled the area.
Police intervened to prevent the fire from spreading to other properties, and authorities have since deployed a large security contingent to the village to maintain order. While the specific blasphemy charges remain unconfirmed, officials stated that an investigation is ongoing. Ejaz Alam Augustine, a Christian member of the Punjab Assembly, reported that police have arrested over 15 individuals suspected of participating in the arson. Local authorities have pledged to handle the case on its merits and ensure the safety of the remaining Christian residents.
