Christian woman murdered in Pakistan following rejected advances

A 21-year-old Christian woman, Saba Mehboob, was fatally shot in her home in Rawalpindi, Pakistan, on September 3. According to her brother, Joshua Mehboob, the assailant was a Muslim neighbor named Adnan Butt, who had previously made unwanted advances toward the victim. Witnesses reported that Butt entered the home, forced family members to leave, and shot Mehboob in the forehead after accusing her of dishonoring him.

Following the shooting, the suspect allegedly abducted the victim’s 16-year-old stepbrother, Anoosh, holding him at gunpoint and pressuring him to falsely confess to the murder. The teenager was released the following day after his family initially agreed not to file a police complaint. However, the family later provided a statement to authorities at a local hospital, leading to the registration of a First Information Report. While the suspect has obtained pre-arrest bail, reports indicate he has a prior criminal record involving weapons and theft. The incident has prompted protests from both Christian and Muslim community members calling for justice.
