New Research Highlights Global Barriers to Bible Access

A collaborative study by the Bible Access Initiative reports that over 500 million Christians currently live in countries where access to the Bible is restricted. The research further indicates that approximately 125 million believers reside in regions where they have no access to Scripture in any format. According to the report, primary obstacles to obtaining the Bible include religious persecution, political instability, poverty, illiteracy, and limited internet infrastructure.

The initiative categorized the findings into two distinct lists. The "Bible Restrictions List," which identifies nations with the most severe legal or social barriers, includes Afghanistan, Yemen, Somalia, North Korea, Eritrea, Mauritania, Turkmenistan, Libya, Sudan, and Iran. A separate "Bible Shortages List" highlights countries facing the greatest physical scarcity of texts, such as the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Nigeria, India, Uganda, Tanzania, China, Indonesia, Angola, and Mozambique.

In response to these findings, ministry representatives are calling for continued prayer and support for global distribution projects aimed at increasing the availability of Scripture for underserved Christian communities.
