Metropolitan Police Face Criticism Following March for Life UK

Thousands of participants gathered in London last weekend for the annual March for Life, an event the Society for the Protection of Unborn Children (SPUC) described as the largest pro-life demonstration in British history with over 10,000 attendees. The march faced significant opposition from counter-protesters, including groups such as Abortion Rights UK and the Feminist Strike Coalition. Reports indicate that a Catholic Mass at Westminster Cathedral was disrupted by demonstrators, leading to allegations of verbal abuse and threats.

Former security professional and attendee Jon Proctor has filed a formal complaint against the Metropolitan Police, alleging that officers were ineffective in protecting the marchers and failed to prevent the disruption at the cathedral. Proctor argued that the police did not deploy sufficient resources early enough to manage known counter-protest activity. In response, a police spokesperson stated that officers engaged with both groups to maintain public order and determined that the threshold for serious disruption was not met. Only one arrest was reported during the event, involving an 18-year-old social media personality.
