Dallas Pastor Frederick D. Haynes III Elected to U.S. House

The Rev. Frederick Douglass Haynes III, senior pastor of Friendship-West Baptist Church in Dallas, has been projected as the winner of the race for Texas' 30th Congressional District. With over 95% of ballots counted, Haynes secured 82.64% of the vote against Republican challenger Everett Jackson. He will succeed U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett, who vacated the seat to pursue a Senate campaign.

Haynes’ campaign faced scrutiny regarding the use of his church as an early voting location, which drew objections from the Dallas County Republican Party due to his status as a candidate. Additionally, reports have surfaced regarding a 2009 lawsuit involving allegations of financial misconduct, which Haynes has previously addressed in legal depositions. Throughout his career, the pastor has been known for his civil rights advocacy and vocal criticism of both President Donald Trump and Israeli policies. He recently received an endorsement from CAIR Action, the political arm of the Council on American-Islamic Relations.
