Right To Life UK launches letter campaign against assisted suicide bill

Right To Life UK has initiated a campaign urging the public to send physical letters to Members of Parliament ahead of the Second Reading of the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill, scheduled for September 11. The organization argues that physical correspondence carries more weight than digital communication and encourages constituents to express their opposition to the proposed legislation.

The campaign follows recent comments from Prime Minister Andy Burnham, who suggested that Parliament should prioritize improving palliative and social care funding before considering assisted suicide. Burnham stated that it is difficult to debate the legislation while many citizens lack adequate care and peace of mind regarding their end-of-life options. Right To Life UK believes these remarks could influence MPs who previously supported similar measures.

According to the advocacy group, the bill could be defeated if only 12 MPs who supported previous versions of the legislation change their stance. The organization notes that seven MPs have already indicated they do not intend to back the bill in the current parliamentary session.
