Mexican Evangelical Pastors Debate Integration of Artificial Intelligence in Ministry
Evangelical church leaders in Mexico are currently divided over the increasing use of artificial intelligence in sermon preparation, worship music, and church communications. While some proponents view these digital tools as efficient ways to disseminate the gospel in a technology-driven society, critics express concern regarding the potential for AI to replace essential spiritual practices.
Opponents of the trend, including prominent speaker Armando Alducin and Identidad Celestial director Ismael Rueda, warn that reliance on AI could lead to sermons that lack personal connection and spiritual depth. Rueda emphasized that while technology can organize information, it cannot facilitate repentance, holiness, or the work of the Holy Spirit. Concerns have also been raised regarding the accuracy of AI-generated content, which may occasionally invent facts or cite non-existent references.
Beyond sermon drafting, the use of AI to compose worship music and create artist identities has sparked further debate within the Christian music industry. Many pastors maintain that while technology may serve as a support tool, it should not supersede prayer, the study of Scripture, or the communal life of the church.
