Israel Reports Two-Thirds of October 7 Attackers Eliminated
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced that approximately 4,000 of the 6,000 terrorists who participated in the October 7, 2023, attack on Israel have been killed. Military Intelligence chief Maj. Gen. Shlomi Binder presented these figures to the security cabinet, noting that Israeli forces are now focused on locating the remaining 2,000 individuals believed to be alive.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Katz have directed the Israel Defense Forces and security agencies to pursue all participants, regardless of rank. This effort is supported by the Nili task force, a joint operation between the IDF and Shin Bet that utilizes facial-recognition technology and visual evidence to identify suspects. In addition to those killed, approximately 300 suspects have been captured and are awaiting trial in military tribunals.
The October 7 assault resulted in the deaths of roughly 1,200 people and the abduction of 251 hostages, sparking a prolonged conflict in Gaza. Recent operations continue to target those involved, including the reported killing of Hamas Nukhba platoon commander Ibrahim Mustafa Suleiman Abu Oweimer.
