Israel Launches Shin Bet Investigation Into Alleged Foreign Election Interference

Israel’s Central Elections Committee chairman, Supreme Court Deputy President Noam Sohlberg, has directed the Shin Bet security agency to investigate potential foreign financial interference in the nation's recent parliamentary elections. The inquiry focuses on allegations that funds from Qatar and Turkey may have been used to influence voter turnout within Arab communities. Officials have requested preliminary findings within one week to meet legal deadlines regarding the certification of election results.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud party has alleged widespread irregularities, including vote-buying and intimidation, though Israeli police have stated they currently lack evidence to support claims of systemic fraud. Representatives from Arab political parties have strongly denied these accusations, labeling them as politically motivated. Meanwhile, the Qatari Foreign Ministry has issued a formal denial of any involvement in the electoral process.

Despite the ongoing investigation, election officials confirmed that the probe will not delay the release of final results or the subsequent coalition-building process. The Shin Bet has cautioned against broad generalizations regarding the voting community, emphasizing that its investigation is based on independent intelligence reports.
