Israel Museum Displays New Testament Excerpt Alongside Great Isaiah Scroll

The Israel Museum in Jerusalem has placed an excerpt from the Gospel of Luke on display alongside the Great Isaiah Scroll as part of its 60th-anniversary exhibition. The museum is currently showcasing the original Isaiah scroll, a centerpiece of the Dead Sea Scrolls discovered in 1947, for a limited period. The accompanying exhibit panel highlights the historical connection between the two texts, noting that the Book of Isaiah is cited 66 times within the New Testament.

Representatives from the Church’s Ministry among Jewish people (CMJ) described the inclusion of the New Testament text as an unexpected development for a national institution. According to the museum’s display, the exhibit aims to illustrate the foundational influence of the prophet Isaiah on early Christian tradition. While the Isaiah scroll is typically shown as a facsimile due to its age and value, the original manuscript is available for public viewing for several months to mark the museum's milestone.
