Indonesian Government Cancels Israel Houghton Concert Over Security Concerns
The Indonesian government has officially banned a scheduled performance by American gospel artist Israel Houghton and his band, Israel & New Breed, which was set for October 24 in Jakarta. Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration and Correctional Affairs Yusril Ihza Mahendra stated that the decision followed inter-agency consultations regarding the "Til the Whole World Knows Tour 2026."
Authorities cited concerns that the event could become a platform for political expressions supporting Israel, which they argue conflicts with Indonesia’s foreign policy and its support for Palestinian independence. Immigration officials confirmed that Houghton would be denied a visa if he applied, citing the need to maintain social harmony and national security. While the government emphasized that it does not oppose religious activities, officials noted that Houghton has been placed on an immigration monitoring list due to his perceived political stance.
