Writer Shares Experience of Three-Week Silent Retreat for Emotional Healing
A writer recently completed a 21-day silent retreat in a remote cabin near Puget Sound, aimed at deep psychological and spiritual introspection. The program, which has operated for over 50 years without public marketing, requires participants to surrender all electronic devices, books, and exercise equipment. The author describes the experience as an intense period of isolation, during which the only human contact was 90-minute daily sessions with a clinical psychologist.
During these sessions, the author engaged in depth therapy to examine childhood experiences and subconscious patterns. The author recounts how the therapist assigned tasks to help process past trauma, including theatrical exercises to revisit early life memories. Outside of these sessions, the author spent the remaining hours in solitude, which they describe as a time to confront the broken pieces of their soul alongside God. The author reflects on the difficulty of the process, noting that the isolation nearly broke them, yet they credit the experience with providing a unique space to address deep-seated emotional pain.
