Muslim-Background Convert Survives Targeted Attack in Western Uganda
Mugambo Ismail, a Christian convert from Islam, narrowly escaped a violent assault in Bundibugyo, Western Uganda, on September 22. Ismail reported that he was intercepted while returning home from evening prayers by a group of men who tied his hands, destroyed his Bible, and threatened to kill him unless he renounced his faith. He managed to flee the scene after pushing one of his captors, eventually finding safety when local Christians heard his cries for help and intervened.
Following the incident, Ismail has relocated to a different village, citing ongoing fears for his life. Rev. Job Thema, overseer of the local Berea Pentecostal Church, stated that the attack reflects rising tensions in the region as more individuals convert to Christianity. According to Rev. Thema, converts are increasingly facing intimidation and threats of violence, leading to significant concerns regarding the safety of those who have recently chosen to follow Christ.
