Saudi Coalition Accuses Houthis of Drone Attack on Medina Power Station

The Saudi-led military coalition has accused Yemen’s Houthi rebels of launching a drone strike against a power distribution station in Medina. According to coalition spokesman Maj. Gen. Turki al-Malki, the attack occurred early Tuesday morning and damaged a transformer at the Taibah facility, which provides electricity to the Prophet’s Mosque. Saudi officials stated that an investigation of recovered wreckage confirms Houthi involvement in the operation.

In response, Houthi officials have denied responsibility for the incident, with a military source cited by the Houthi-controlled Saba news agency labeling the accusations as false. This event follows a separate claim by Saudi authorities two weeks ago that they intercepted a drone south of Mecca, marking what officials described as the second attempt to target that city since 2017. The Houthis also denied involvement in that earlier incident.

While the conflict has moved toward sites of significant religious importance, observers note that the geography of these attacks has drawn attention to various Islamic eschatological traditions regarding the end times. However, analysts emphasize that there is no verified evidence linking the current Houthi military offensive to the fulfillment of these specific religious prophecies.
