Two Christians killed in attack in Nigeria's Plateau State

Two Christians were killed and three others were wounded during an armed raid in the village of Angwan Tsarki, located in Bokkos County, Plateau State, Nigeria. Local residents reported that the attack occurred at approximately 10 p.m. on Sunday, October 4, while villagers were sleeping. The injured victims are currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital in Bokkos town.
Residents identified the assailants as Fulani gunmen. This incident follows a broader trend of violence in Nigeria’s Middle Belt, where Christian leaders have expressed concerns that extremist elements among Fulani herdsmen are targeting farming communities to seize land and impose Islamic ideology. While many Fulani clans do not hold extremist views, reports from the United Kingdom’s All-Party Parliamentary Group for International Freedom or Belief have noted that some factions adopt strategies similar to groups like Boko Haram.
According to the 2026 World Watch List by Open Doors, Nigeria recorded the highest number of faith-based killings globally between October 2024 and September 2025, accounting for 3,490 of the 4,849 total deaths reported worldwide.
