Journalist Marvin Olasky Announces Retirement After 56-Year Career
Marvin Olasky, a veteran journalist who served as editor-in-chief for both World and Christianity Today, has announced his retirement from full-time journalism after a 56-year career. Reflecting on his professional journey, which began in 1970, Olasky expressed gratitude for his colleagues and his wife of 50 years, Susan. He credits God as the active force behind his long career, citing a passage from Walker Percy’s novel The Second Coming to describe his desire for both his spouse and his faith.
Olasky plans to remain active in retirement through several ongoing projects. He intends to continue writing on his Substack, focusing on topics such as homelessness, and will maintain his monthly book recommendation newsletter. Additionally, he and his wife will continue operating the Zenger House foundation, which awards prizes to journalists and students for reporting that acknowledges both the spiritual and material aspects of life. Olasky also plans to remain involved with his local congregation, Grace + Peace Austin in Texas.
