Foursquare Church Youth Pastor Trey Lara Dies During Portland Marathon
Trey Lara, a 24-year-old youth pastor within the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel, passed away on Sunday after suffering cardiac arrest during the Portland Marathon in Oregon. Lara, who was days away from his 25th birthday, collapsed near the 20-mile mark of the race. Despite receiving medical attention, he could not be resuscitated. His wife, Audrey Shin-Lara, stated that he had no known underlying health conditions and had trained extensively for the event.
Lara was a prominent young leader who recently transitioned from his role at Eastside Church in Bothell, Washington, to a broader denominational position focused on resourcing and empowering young pastors. His parents serve as associate district supervisors for the Foursquare Church’s Northwest District. In his final sermon at Eastside Church this past August, Lara expressed his commitment to supporting the next generation of ministry leaders. A fundraising campaign has been established to assist his family, which has already garnered significant financial support from the community.
