Florida Pastor Akeem Moore Killed in Case of Mistaken Identity
Akeem Moore, a 31-year-old minister of worship at Mount Calvary Baptist Church of West Palm Beach, was fatally shot on September 27 in what police describe as a case of mistaken identity. Moore was sitting in his vehicle with his girlfriend, Loren Wilder, when 38-year-old Hugh Milner Jr. approached the car. Prosecutors allege that Milner, who had previously dated Wilder’s sister, mistakenly believed the woman in the passenger seat was his former partner.
According to police reports, Moore attempted to clarify that the woman was not the person Milner was seeking before trying to drive away. Milner fired into the vehicle, striking Moore in the back. Despite his injury, Moore drove to a nearby fire station to seek help, but he later died at St. Mary’s Medical Center. West Palm Beach Police Chief Tony Araujo praised Moore’s actions as heroic for his efforts to protect his passenger. Milner has been charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, and shooting into an occupied vehicle. Mount Calvary Baptist Church remembered Moore as a dedicated preacher and a committed servant of the Gospel.
