Ugandan man hospitalized after attack by sons over Christian conversion

A 52-year-old man in eastern Uganda is recovering after being assaulted by his sons for converting to Christianity. Kibirige Abumusa, a resident of Nakalama village in the Iganga District, reportedly embraced the Christian faith in June 2026 following an evangelistic event in Jinja City. Upon returning home on August 9, he was confronted by his adult son, Kibirige Budallah, who had been informed of the conversion by a local imam.

According to an eyewitness, the confrontation escalated when Budallah and four of his brothers attacked Abumusa with sticks. The victim sustained injuries to his back, legs, and hands, and suffered from bleeding. Neighbors intervened to assist Abumusa, who was subsequently hospitalized for approximately one week. Following his discharge, he relocated to a friend's home for safety. Abumusa has chosen not to report the incident to local authorities, citing fears of further retaliation from his family members.
