European Leaders Pledge Support to Ukraine on Independence Day

As Ukraine marked its 35th anniversary of independence on Monday, European leaders gathered in Kyiv to reaffirm their commitment to the nation's defense. British Prime Minister Andy Burnham, on his first foreign trip, announced that the United Kingdom will share classified blueprints for Storm Shadow missile components to enable domestic production in Ukraine. Moscow condemned the move, with Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov accusing Britain of direct involvement in the conflict and threatening to target Ukrainian manufacturing sites.

Simultaneously, the European Commission pledged 6.1 billion euros for air defense systems, ammunition, and radars. European Council President António Costa emphasized that the European Union remains committed to Ukraine’s security and future membership. While European officials attended the commemorations, senior envoys from the U.S. Trump administration were notably absent, though former Vice President Mike Pence and former envoy Keith Kellogg were present. The event occurred amid ongoing Russian missile and drone strikes, which have recently caused significant casualties across the country.
