European Evangelical Alliance Expresses Concern Over Abortion Policy Shifts

The European Evangelical Alliance (EEA) has voiced opposition to recent legislative developments regarding abortion access in the predominantly Catholic nations of Andorra and Liechtenstein. EEA representative Tatiana Kopaleishvili stated that the organization maintains a biblical view of the sanctity of life from conception and views these policy shifts as part of a concerning broader trend across Europe.

In Andorra, Prime Minister Xavier Espot has announced plans to introduce legislation to decriminalize the act of obtaining an abortion outside the country. The proposal aims to protect women from prosecution for procedures performed abroad, though it would not legalize abortion within the principality. The nation is governed by a co-principality system involving the French President and the Bishop of Urgell.

Meanwhile, the parliament of Liechtenstein narrowly voted 13-12 in favor of a citizen-led initiative to legalize abortion during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. The measure would also permit the dissemination of information regarding abortion and include the procedure under health insurance coverage. However, Hereditary Prince Alois has signaled his intention to exercise his constitutional veto power to block the legislation.
