Erwin Lutzer and Gregg Quiggle Release Book Comparing Marx and Moody
Pastor emeritus Erwin Lutzer of The Moody Church and historical theologian Gregg Quiggle have released a new book titled 'Marx and Moody: Two Contemporaries. Two Gospels. Two Tombstones. One Choice.' Published by Moody Publishers, the work examines the contrasting worldviews and legacies of 19th-century figures Karl Marx and evangelist Dwight L. Moody.
Lutzer, who authored the sections on Marx, stated that the project was inspired by a visit to Marx’s grave in London, where he realized the two men were contemporaries. Quiggle, a former professor at Moody Bible Institute, contributed the sections regarding Moody’s life and ministry. The book explores how the two men represented fundamentally different approaches to social and spiritual issues during the 1800s.
In the text, Lutzer critiques the legacy of Marxist thought while contrasting it with the evangelistic and social work established by Moody. Lutzer argues that capitalism, despite its historical flaws, provides superior incentives for human initiative and economic competition compared to socialist systems.
