Erika Kirk Addresses Biblical Obedience and Spiritual Discernment at Liberty University

During a recent address at Liberty University’s Convocation, Erika Kirk, CEO of Turning Point USA, challenged believers to distinguish between performative Christianity and genuine obedience to Christ. Drawing on her reflections regarding the nature of a biblical life, Kirk cautioned that outward displays of faith, such as church attendance or social media declarations, do not equate to a life lived in submission to God.

Kirk emphasized the difficulty of discerning between righteous actions and those that are merely destructive, noting that some individuals invoke Scripture and divine revelation while behaving in ways that are dishonest or cruel. She contrasted the "fruit of chaos" with the "fruit of truth and order," warning that believers can mistakenly believe they are defending the truth while actually acting in ways contrary to God’s character.

To illustrate her point, Kirk referenced the Pharisees of the New Testament, who viewed themselves as righteous yet faced severe rebuke from Jesus. She encouraged her audience to move beyond self-proclaimed discernment and instead focus on the tangible fruit produced by their lives, urging a deeper commitment to authentic, obedient faith.
