Former Open Doors UK & Ireland Leader Eddie Lyle Dies at 73
Eddie Lyle, the former chief executive and president of Open Doors UK & Ireland, passed away on September 19 in Oxford, England, at the age of 73. His death followed complications arising from heart surgery. Lyle, who was born in Northern Ireland, dedicated much of his career to supporting persecuted Christians, having previously served with organizations such as Youth for Christ and Release International before joining Open Doors in 2005.
Colleagues and organizational leaders have remembered Lyle as a mentor and visionary who significantly shaped the ministry's global impact. During his 25 years of work with persecuted communities, Lyle was known for his Bible teaching and his efforts to bridge the gap between Christians living in freedom and those facing religious oppression. Board members and staff highlighted his personal kindness, humor, and his practice of encouraging others to maintain a constant focus on prayer for the suffering church. He is survived by his wife, Christine.
