Pastors Debate Biblical Interpretation of Speaking Things Into Existence

In a recent sermon at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, Pastor Jamal Bryant discussed the power of speech by referencing Romans 4:17, which instructs believers to call those things which be not as though they were. Bryant illustrated his point by noting the etymology of the word "abracadabra," which he identified as an Arabic phrase meaning "I create what I speak." He encouraged his congregation to exercise faith by speaking their desired outcomes into existence, suggesting that believers should declare their needs to see God move in their lives.

Following these remarks, Pastor Donnie McClurkin of Perfecting Faith Church addressed the teaching during a service at his own congregation. Drawing on 2 Corinthians 6:14, McClurkin cautioned against mixing secular or occult concepts with Christian holiness. He explicitly rejected the notion that believers possess the power to create reality through their words, labeling the practice as false doctrine. McClurkin emphasized that such teachings are incompatible with biblical theology, urging his listeners to avoid incorporating practices associated with witchcraft into their faith and understanding of God's power.
