Integrating Good Works into the Christian Mission Paradigm

In the latest installment of a series on reframing missions, the author explores the essential role of service and good works in the Christian witness. Drawing on Matthew 5:16, the text argues that the love received through Christ is intended to overflow into tangible service, allowing the world to see these actions and ultimately glorify God. The author suggests that while proclamation is vital, believers must ensure that works of mercy are equally prioritized as a fruit of their redeemed relationship with God.

To support this perspective, the author references 1 Peter 2:12, which encourages believers to maintain honorable conduct even when facing unjust accusations, and James 3:13, which links wisdom to good conduct. The series encourages those involved in mission movements—specifically referencing the emerging mission movement in China—to reconsider traditional metrics of success. By focusing on godly character and reconciled relationships, the author contends that the church can more effectively manifest God’s glory and fulfill its calling to be witnesses to the nations.
