Christian Development Scholar and Author Bryant Myers Dies at Age 75

Bryant Myers, a prominent figure in Christian relief and development, passed away on August 15. Over a career spanning more than three decades, Myers served in senior leadership roles at World Vision International and later contributed to the academic field as a professor at Fuller Theological Seminary.

Myers is widely recognized for his influential book, Walking with the Poor: Principles and Practices of Transformational Development. First published in 1999, the work bridged the gap between international development practices and theological reflection. He consistently advocated for a shift in perspective, urging practitioners to prioritize the dignity, agency, and spiritual lives of those living in poverty rather than focusing solely on programmatic indicators and budgets.

Colleagues remember Myers for his collaborative spirit and his emphasis on the importance of relationship and humility in mission work. His writing and teaching explored complex themes including globalization, world mission, and health, always centering on the Christian responsibility to participate in God’s work of restoration.
