Texas Senate Candidates Garner Support from Competing Faith Coalitions

As the Texas U.S. Senate race enters its final weeks, both Republican candidate Ken Paxton and his opponent have mobilized coalitions of faith leaders to engage voters. A group titled "Pastors for Paxton," consisting of 27 Evangelical and charismatic leaders, has formed to support the Attorney General. Members of this coalition, including minister and former NFL player Jack Brewer and Pastor Richard Ellis of Reunion Church, intend to lead their congregations in prayer and participate in Paxton’s upcoming "Come and Take It" bus tour.

Simultaneously, the opposing campaign has launched "Faithful Texans for Talarico," a coalition supported by actor Jordan Walker Ross. During a recent event, the candidate described his decision to run for office as a form of ministry, citing encouragement from his pastor, the Rev. Jim Rigby. Both candidates identify as Christians, though their campaigns have faced scrutiny regarding their personal conduct and theological positions. With the election scheduled for November 3, these faith-based groups are playing a prominent role in the final stages of the campaign.
