Evangelist J John Urges Churches to Prioritize Evangelism Training
Speaking at the Church Resources Exhibition, evangelist Canon J John called on church leaders to rebalance their focus, arguing that congregations currently dedicate over 95 percent of their resources to worship and internal wellbeing. He cited Philo Trust research indicating that only 36 out of 1,000 surveyed evangelical churches had provided evangelism training in the previous decade. J John urged leaders to adopt an evangelistic mindset that extends beyond the existing congregation to reach those on the fringes of church life.
To address this, J John encouraged churches to implement annual evangelism training, emphasizing that members require practical guidance rather than mere encouragement to share their faith. The event also featured other speakers, including Phil Stokes of REACH, who discussed the importance of intentional disciple-making. Stokes highlighted the growth of microchurches as a method for engaging younger generations and developing disciples who are equipped to establish new Christian communities.
