Somali Christian woman held and beaten by family following conversion
A 20-year-old Somali woman, identified as Mariam Fatuma, is reportedly being held in confinement and subjected to physical abuse by her uncle after her conversion to Christianity. Fatuma, who embraced the Christian faith in February, was discovered praying by family members on September 27. Sources indicate that her uncle has since restricted her access to food and water, causing a noticeable decline in her physical health.
Family members have reportedly pressured Fatuma to identify the individual who introduced her to the faith, but she has refused to disclose this information despite the threat of further harm. While she remains under confinement, she has expressed a desire to maintain family ties despite the ongoing conflict. Local underground fellowship members have raised concerns regarding her safety and medical needs, noting that any intervention must be handled with extreme caution to protect both the woman and those attempting to assist her.
