Christian widows in Nigeria receive support following regional violence
Christian widows in Nigeria’s Plateau State are receiving support from City Ministries, a partner of the mission organization SIM, as they recover from the loss of their husbands and homes due to ongoing violence. Many of these women, particularly in the Miango area, have faced severe trauma, including physical injuries and the destruction of their livelihoods. The ministry provides practical assistance, such as covering medical and educational costs, while also offering trauma support and vocational training to help them rebuild their lives.
Mission worker Dominique, who has been serving in Jos for eight months, reports that the ministry team conducts outreach visits that include worship, prayer, and a foot-washing service modeled after the actions of Jesus. Despite their significant material needs, the women frequently emphasize their desire for prayer regarding their spiritual resilience. According to Dominique, the widows often ask for strength to forgive those who harmed them and for the ability to continue leaning on their faith while navigating the long-term effects of their trauma.
