Christian metal band Demon Hunter sues Netflix over trademark infringement

The Christian metal band Demon Hunter has filed a lawsuit against Netflix and concert promoter AEG Presents, alleging trademark infringement and unfair competition. The band, formed in 2000, claims that the title of the animated production "KPop Demon Hunters" has caused significant confusion among fans and consumers. The lawsuit, filed by the band's corporate entity Hyde Lane, seeks a jury trial and argues that the film's popularity has negatively impacted the band's ability to manage its brand and concert listings.

According to the complaint, the band has experienced several instances of mistaken identity, including a fan who purchased tickets to a metal concert believing it was a performance by the fictional K-pop group. The band also reported receiving media inquiries intended for the film's production team and noted that online search results for their music and merchandise are frequently overshadowed by the animated project. The lawsuit contends that the addition of the prefix "KPop" is insufficient to distinguish the film from the band's established trademark.
