JustMoney Movement Urges Christians to Reduce Reliance on Amazon
The JustMoney Movement, an organization focused on the intersection of faith and economic justice, has launched a campaign encouraging Christians and churches to limit their use of Amazon. The group cites concerns regarding the company’s tax practices, environmental impact, and influence on local businesses. As part of the initiative, supporters are being urged to seek ethical, local alternatives and to lobby their Members of Parliament to support the UN Framework Convention on International Tax Cooperation.
In response to these concerns, Amazon highlighted its economic contributions, noting that it paid over £1.3 billion in direct UK taxes in 2025, a 20 percent increase from the previous year. The company stated that its total tax contributions exceeded £6.5 billion and emphasized its ongoing £40 billion investment plan in Britain. Regarding environmental impact, Amazon reaffirmed its goal to reach net zero by 2040, though its 2024 sustainability report acknowledged a 6 percent rise in absolute carbon emissions alongside a 4 percent reduction in carbon intensity.
