Christian author and Silverwind singer Betsy Ann Hernandez dies at 71

Betsy Ann Hernandez, a Christian author and the lead vocalist for the 1980s Contemporary Christian Music group Silverwind, passed away on October 22, 2026, at the age of 71. Her son, Evan Hernandez, confirmed that she died following a brief battle with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer, which was diagnosed only three weeks prior to her passing.

Hernandez gained prominence in 1980 as a founding member of Silverwind, a group established by the Agape Force Ministry in Lindale, Texas. Known as the "vocal heart" of the band, she contributed to acclaimed albums such as "Silverwind" and "A Song in the Night." Former bandmate Patricia Forney paid tribute to their long-standing friendship and Hernandez's dedication to ministry, noting that the group often spent time praying for concert attendees after their performances.

Family members reported that Hernandez remained peaceful throughout her final days. She is survived by her husband, Frank, and her children. Burial arrangements are expected to be announced by the family in the coming days.
